15–20 min first visit
A registered physician reads the pulse at both wrists, looks at your tongue, and asks about sleep, appetite, digestion and temperature. From that he works out a pattern and decides what treatment you need. Everything else on this page follows from this step.
Learn more
- Bring: a list of any medication you take, and recent test results if you have them.
- Commonly seen: lingering coughs, poor sleep, digestive trouble, fatigue, menstrual irregularity, recovery after illness or surgery, aches and joint pain.
- Follow-ups are shorter — about 10 minutes — and the plan is usually adjusted each time.
- If what you describe belongs in a hospital rather than a medicine hall, we will tell you and send you there.

Filled while you wait
Your formula is written by hand and filled from the drawer wall, herb by herb, on a brass scale — one packet per day, nothing pre-mixed. Concentrated granules are available if brewing is impractical, and we accept prescriptions written by any registered physician.

Fine sterile needles, single-use and disposed of after every session, placed at points chosen for your pattern. Most people feel a dull heaviness rather than pain. Used mainly for musculoskeletal pain, stiffness, headaches, and where herbs alone are working slowly.

- Wear loose clothing that rolls above the elbow and knee.
- Eat something beforehand — do not come on an empty stomach.
- Courses: a short course of several sessions is normal; one session is rarely the whole answer.
- Tell us first if you are pregnant, on blood thinners, or have a pacemaker.

Tui Na

Added where needed
Targeted manual work on a specific area — not a full-course massage, and not booked on its own. The physician uses it alongside acupuncture, for a few minutes, only where the tissue needs releasing before or after needling. If you are looking for a full body massage, this is not that.

Cupping

10–15 min
Suction cups drawn along the back and shoulders for tight, aching muscles and that heavy, blocked feeling. It leaves circular marks that look dramatic and fade over several days — they are not bruises and they do not hurt.

- Marks typically fade in three to seven days. Plan around weddings, photos and beach holidays.
- Not suitable over broken or inflamed skin, or if you bruise very easily.
- Often combined with acupuncture in the same visit rather than booked alone.
Fees are quoted at the counter before anything begins, and we issue an itemised receipt for company or insurance claims. If you would rather know the cost in advance, call and ask — nobody minds.

四 Practical questions
Before
you come.
Do I need an appointment?
We recommend one — call 6251 3268 and we will give you a time. Walk in if that is easier, but waiting times vary depending on how busy the counter is. For acupuncture or cupping, please do call, so a treatment room is free when you arrive.
Can I take Chinese medicine alongside my Western medication?
Usually yes, and most of our patients do. But bring your medication list so the physician can see the whole picture, and tell your doctor what you are taking from us. Some combinations need spacing apart, and a few need avoiding.
Does acupuncture hurt?
Far less than people expect. The needles are much finer than the ones used for injections. Most people feel a dull, heavy ache at the point — that sensation is what the physician is looking for. Tell him if anything is genuinely sharp.
How long before I feel a difference?
It depends on how long the problem has been there. Recent aches and colds often shift within days. Long-running complaints are usually reviewed after two to three weeks. If nothing has changed after a fair trial, we will say so rather than keep going.
What should I wear and bring?
Loose clothing that rolls above the elbow and knee, and a light meal beforehand. Bring your medication list and any recent test results. Avoid brushing your tongue right before you come — the physician needs to see its natural coating.
Do you brew the medicine for me?
If you want us to. Leave the formula and collect it brewed, in sealed single-serve pouches you keep in the fridge and warm through. Otherwise brewing instructions are written on every packet in English and Chinese.
Is any of this safe during pregnancy?
Tell us you are pregnant, or trying to be, before anything begins. Several herbs and several acupuncture points are avoided entirely in pregnancy, and cupping is not done on the abdomen or lower back. Treatment is possible, but it has to be planned around.
Can I claim this on insurance?
We issue an itemised receipt for every visit, which is what most company and personal insurance plans ask for. Whether your particular plan reimburses TCM is a question for your insurer.
Which languages do you speak?
English, Mandarin, Hakka and Hokkien at the counter. Bring someone with you if you would rather have a second pair of ears.
